Our Life: Beginning & Always

Our Life: Beginnings & Always is a visual novel from GB Patch Games. It is a free-to-play game released on November 16, 2020. And recommended for players 16 and older.

Summary:

Summertime is a cherished time of year.  For 8-year-old Jamie Last, this is what dreams are made of.  The sun, sand, and beach await, in the town of Sunset Bird. After befriending your new neighbor Cove, your summers are never the same.

Our Life: Beginnings & Always is a beautiful game.  The story takes place over four summers, starting when you’re eight years old, and ending in adulthood.  Pronouns are customizable.  As well as, Jamie’s last name and appearance.  With each Summer, you can change your pronouns, and appearance and alter the intensity of your relationship with Cove.

I love the fact that you are able to decide the path of your relationship. If you wanna bag Cove you can, and if being friends is the better option. You can do that too!  And you aren’t penalized for these choices. I fucks with that heavy.

Thoughts on Our Life: Beginnings & Always

This game was fun!  The story was entertaining and it’s crazy how smoothly it was all woven together.  The GB Patch Dev team took mundane moments and made them memorable.  And memorable moments that felt like they’ll last a lifetime.

Moments are what you make them and the cast of characters in this game made it that much more memorable. But for the sake of being transparent and keeping it a buck with ya” ll.  I found Baby Cove to be annoying as hell.  He was a sensitive child and truth be told. I wasn’t ready for that at all. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being emotional. He has every right to be after being uprooted from everything he knows.  My issue was with what he chose to be mad about.  But I digress, as more and more time passed Cove Holden grew on me. It started to feel like a real friendship.

My Gameplay Strategy

My gameplay strategy was simple. It consisted of teasing Cove any chance I got. And being kind when things felt heavier and he needed it. I won’t lie, it backfired on me a little bit.  I thought it would be funny to share the 1st conversation that I had with his father.  And how he paid me to be friends with him instead of him laughing off like though he would because it’s been 5 or 6 years.   But damn, ya girl was wrong.  He flipped out and barked at his Pops. I felt bad.

But hands down, my most favorite and slightly trauma-filled memory of Our Life was when I got curved by a child.  And on video, I might add. Me! at my big age got curved by a 10-year-old named Derek Suarez.  It was leading to a confession on his part and somehow ended with me looking stupid on steam.  After that, I never opted for emotions again. If you’re the slightest bit curious. You can check it out on Twitch.  While you’re over there, hit that follow button. We stream on Wednesday and Sunday.

But all in all, I really enjoyed Our Life: Beginnings and Always.  I can’t wait to play thru it again.
