Brooklyn Comic Con

There is something almost magical about bringing together a diverse group of individuals in celebration of a shared identity or, rather, a common taste. With a heavy focus on cosplay, video games, music, and more.  The Sexy Nerds Presents Brooklyn Comic Con

In its 6th year, Brooklyn Comic Con 2025 was held at The Breeze in Bushwick, Brooklyn. I love how the three-story facility was utilized so well, including the rooftop.  On the first floor were the LARP rooms, courtesy of Dragorhir NYC.  As well as the Toy and Gaming Lounge. The second floor held the Video Game Hall brought to you by VideoGames New York.  Art Workshop by Art Student League,   Block World, and Media Lounge (Photoshoot/Videography Area). And on the third floor, the Main Hall (Vendors Room). There were even live wrestling matches by Remarkable Wrestling in the courtyard.

Video Game Hall

This year, I went solo and spent about 60 percent of my time in the Video Game Hall.  The VideoGames New York event setup was a chef’s kiss- So much variety.  There were Gaming kiosks, Arcade cabinets, and retro game stations. Modded gaming pads and indie and modern ports as well.  There were even a bunch of games I had never even heard of.  Ya girl, I got to test a lot of them out.

There were fan favorites like Mario Kart and Smash Bros Brawl, but also rhythm games like Friday Night Funkin’, complete with a custom gaming pad.  The very addictive Robot Unicorn Attack, which I played on Saturday and Sunday.  Childhood Memory unlocked, replaying Soul Calibur on a Dreamcast Kiosk. Not to mention, Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (Arcade Game).

New York-based indie gaming company VGNY Soft was also in attendance. I finally got to play Popslinger.  A 90s anime-inspired shooter about a girl trying to save the world from invaders. Ports for Earth Atlantis and Risk System were also available to demo.

There were Gundam FGC (PlayStation)  and Capcom’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure game. I’m a casual fighting game fan, but I also love a good beat ’em up.  The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is a side-scrolling beat ’em up game.  It was co-op,  I was able to party up with 5 other people, and that made the experience even more fun. I struggled!  The gamepads were even color-coded.

Moreover, another highlight for me was getting to test out SEGASONIC the Hedgehog, a platformer which uses a trackball to control gameplay.  This game was never ported out West, and I was surprised to see Sonic’s Mysterious Partners.  Ray the flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo.  All new experiences in many aspects, but it was fun.  And a bit of workout, as the game progressed, so did my technique.  Would love the opportunity to go at it again. Dance Dance Revolution is a convention staple. While I’m pretty ass at it, I can never pass up the opportunity get those steps in.  I fumbled both times, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Lastly, can we talk about the cosplay for a quick minute? Everyone looked fantastic. Folks of all shapes and sizes showed out. As well as different levels of customization. Outfits that were fully realized, and others who were just wearing a jacket or some accessory.  Store-bought stuff and custom-made outfits. There were a lot of people in just t-shirts. You get to experience a little bit of everything. It’s great to see people just have a good time.  It’s heartwarming.

Attending panels is one of my favorite activities at the convention.  Unlike previous years, there weren’t any. That was a little disappointing, but it was not enough to overshadow the rest of the experience.   I think everyone should experience a nerd-themed convention at least once in their life. It doesn’t necessarily have to be this one. But some food for thought.

Brooklyn Comic Con is pretty much a family-friendly event.  With some activities to cater to the little one.  If that’s something that concerns you.  Outside of that, BKCC is pretty chill. It’s a nice change of pace compared to the chaos of bigger cons.  That’s another reason I would recommend it.  All in all, Brooklyn Comic Con 2025 was a success.  Thank you, Sexy Nerds, for providing the experience. And for anyone on the fence about attending your first
