What a great weekend we had at Anime NYC! On Friday night we walked into one of the last panels of the night. Anime Cabaret Improv Jam was just Lizzo and me wanting to check out something new since we weren’t ready to leave yet. I’m happy we decided to join Lisa that night this was an amazing experience. I’m not sure if Lisa does this Cabaret at each con she goes to but this is definitely one panel I would sit through each year.

For those that may not know who Lisa Ortiz is she’s a successful Voice Actress and Director that has voiced many characters of our childhood and adulthood. Lisa has voiced Amy Rose in the Sonic Series, Serenity Wheeler in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Tony Tony Chopper in 4Kids dub of One Piece, Lina Inverse in Slayers and High-Elf Deedlit in Record of Lodoss War just to name a few.

I don’t believe I’ve ever been to cabaret and this being my first experience of one was great. Lisa looked beautiful in her dress and her beautiful voice brought a different element to each song she performed. Before each song, Lisa told a quick story that related to each song in the funniest way. a few classics were sung and many anime theme songs made their way to the mic.

Audience participation was necessary for this panel and I’m happy it was. Lisa asked the audience to describe an anime and she would improvise a song, to sum up, the anime and some of them she was spot on and others were hilarious. Lisa’s personality was really made for this, her presence just touches you and as she interacts with the audience really shows she knows how to talk and engage people.

My favorite part was Lisa telling a short story about the love of her little life and how he wanted to journey around the world. This story led up to the theme song of Pokemon and all of us went wild and started singing along. Then in between the song she started adding more to the story, it was the funniest part of the set. I would definitely be attending another panel with Lisa at any future con. One of the most entertaining panels I’ve sat through in all my years of going to cons.
